Julie O x LHO x Hannah Minkley: WOMAN

Hey all!

Late last year I mentioned Love’s Hangover on the blog, a boutique based in Indiana, USA that’s run by two Kenyan sisters who I’ve been following online for a while. They approached me to do some blogging for their site and among the first tasks we discussed was a photo shoot relating water to the strength of women.

As I’d been thinking about doing a yoga shoot for ages and only had a couple more weeks living right at the beach in Port Elizabeth, I decided to step to it. It certainly helped the cause when I won a free photo shoot on Hannah Minkley’s photography page on Facebook. Woohoo happy coincidences!

I got to put on my conceptualizing glasses and chose a yoga-centred theme by the ocean to emphasize the strength in being still and calm amidst the constantly moving and sometimes violent water.

Currently I've been doing the 30 days of yoga challenge by Adriene Mishler of Yoga with Adriene - one of my efforts to start keeping to commitments and finishing what I start. Discipline is a beautiful thing and something I only recently realized I don't have enough of, which explains why I've started so many tasks and projects but not really finished well, if at all.

It's great to have ambitions and make plans, but I personally think we also need to be realistic and not take on too much at one time.

Once i finish typing this I'll be back on my yoga mat for day 22 of my 30 day yoga challenge. Small achievement but I'm quite proud of myself for sticking to it and seeing improvements in my practice. So yoga made sense for me here as I think it help builds my physical strength as well as mentally push me.
