Create > Consume: A Challenge to MAKE the World You Want to Live In

Hi babes.

*I’ve designed and will start this week a 5-day travel writing challenge for any and everyone who wants to see what they can do with their words and memories. Daily prompts and inspiration to write no more than 500 words (2 short paragraphs) daily – unless you want to!

Sign up here and then read on for some thoughts on creating the lives and world we want.

.

Pin these for later ;)

Well, here we still are – 2 months stranded in a lovely peaceful town in Uganda for me, not a bad place to be stuck at all. I’m fresh off a restful weekend of writing my ideas out, watching movies, catching up on some reading and sunbathing. I also just got my phone back after the screen being broken and the order for a new one by the repair shop in town taking about a week.

Turns out I didn’t die. It was a little stressful being unsure if the replacement screen would materialize or if it was even repairable but in the end having the phone back was kind of an anti-climax.

There weren’t that many messages I had missed as if someone needs to get in touch with me there’s all my social media, which I could still access via my laptop. What I did miss though was my camera, my voice recorder and all other tools I use to create.

In the meantime I published the below video on YouTube about how I became a travel writer and went on this Instagram rant about it being a revolutionary act for black and brown people continuing to create and share our creativity in all forms despite plagiarism, disrespect and many of our less qualified skilled or informed white/western counterparts taking up space in situations where they don’t have the range.

Ultimately in losing access to my phone I learned that:

1. Creating (cooking, writing, conversation, visual art, gardening ++) is so much more valuable to our souls and selves than consuming to distract ourselves or pass the time.

2. That applies to the very way the world works and the changes that people are making and trying to manifest in their relationships, work and careers and more. The power is ours to create in the broader sense, the world we want.

Rant over. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook – even LinkedIn.

Remember to sign up at any time for the 5-day challenge which starts tomorrow for the first time but can be done and re-done whenever you like and at your own pace.

Peace,

J.
