My $300/month Part-Time Side Hustle: English Tutoring on Cambly

You’ve probably heard how popular teaching English online is as a source of income for lots of people, particularly those who want to travel often (or permanently).

The appeal of that digital nomad lifestyle is ever-growing, especially after the year we’ve all just had.

You may or may not have heard that it can be near-impossible to be hired to do this if you’re not a citizen of the US, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand. That’s often regardless of any qualifications, experience and well, knowledge of the English language.

Lucky for people fluent in English from other places like me, Cambly is one website that does hire people with a native-level handle on the language to tutor people mainly in conversation.

That’s where I managed to make $330 in my first month – that’s just from working about 2 hours a day because I live in a noisy complex. It could go much higher for you.

It’s not easy money though, and you need to have patience, put in the hours and have a good enough handle on English to correct people’s grammar/pronounciation and wording.

Read on for more details and where to apply.

What Teaching English Online Entails.

In the case of Cambly, majority of the students want to practice their conversational English and start to sound more natural. If you’re not a good conversationalist, honestly, don’t apply.

Some people are practicing for a specific purpose e.g. business or the IELTS or TOEFL exam.

There is a wide library of lessons that you could go through in your session that lays out exercises on several topics (including exam questions) and are set to varying levels of students’ English.

Which means: you don’t have to prepare a thing. Just log on and talk, listen and correct mistakes.

How much Cambly English Tutors Make.

The pay is set per minute taught, although if you’re teaching adults it works out to $10.20 per hour and for tutors on Cambly Kids the rate is $17 per hour.
